Freshwater Grill restaurant on the Macleay River in Kempsey offers guests a delicious, earthy menu focusing on beautiful, fresh local produce and high quality, tender meat sourced from farms of the Macleay Valley. Much attention has been paid to create a dining experience that pays homage to the family, farm and produce. We promise that you’ll be surprised by the diverse new menu flavours and tastes.

There are many mouth-watering options available for starters such as Smoked Salmon and caper berry salad with dill and goats cheese dressing or King Prawn & Oyster salad with lemon crème fraiche.

Moving onto mains, why not try Freshwater Grill’s Salt Cured Cider Braised Pork Belly on green apple and creamed cabbage. Yum!

Or perhaps one of the classics takes your fancy such as Barramundi fillets flash-fried in 150 Lashes beer batter, served with salad, fries and a house made tartare or Pappardelle pasta with whole roasted mushrooms & honey brazed chicken in a creamy sauce.

For those with the heartiest of appetites, we suggest the Dry Aged King of Steaks (600gm+) Macleay River Viking cutlet served with house made beer battered potatoes, green beans and garlic butter. All we can say is wow!

Head Chef Lloyd Newell

Our talented and fun-loving Chef Lloyd, grew up in the Macleay Valley and started his apprenticeship in Sydney in 1986 where he worked the Sydney scene for many years in a number of fine dining establishments.

After many years he returned to the Macleay Valley to open a successful business with his brother Kevin. Fast forward and Lloyd decided to take a much deserved break and venture out to explore our grand countryside on a bike adventure.

He then decided to head back to the pans at our lovely club with a clear vision: to create a high quality restaurant and dining experience that our Valley can be proud of.

He and his kitchen team are extremely passionate about the produce the Macleay Valley yields and design the seasonal menus based solely on the beautiful produce readily available.
